HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that lowers LDL cholesterol by blocking hepatic cholesterol synthesis, used to reduce cardiovascular risk in dyslipidemia.
- CONTRAINDICATED in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Monitor LFTs before starting and at 12 months.
- Muscle pain requires creatine kinase check.
- Caution in heavy alcohol use or hepatic disease.
