1. SOLIFENACIN SUCCINATE                                  [2nd line]
   Adult    5 mg once daily, may increase to 10 mg once daily if necessary. - As directed, long-term
            maintenance
   Peds     Safety and efficacy in children have not yet been established. Vesicare should not be
            used in children.

   Why      Once infective and metabolic causes are excluded, urinary frequency/urgency reflects
            overactive bladder, for which solifenacin at the standard licensed starting dose is
            first-line.
   Caution  New excessive urination with thirst and weight loss suggests undiagnosed diabetes;
            frequency with blood in the urine needs further urological work-up.
            Only after excluding urinary tract infection and new-onset diabetes (both are red flags
            for this symptom) - antimuscarinics treat overactive bladder, not infection or
            hyperglycaemia.
            CONTRAINDICATED in narrow-angle glaucoma, severe ulcerative colitis, and urinary
            retention.
            Anticholinergic effects include dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision; use
            cautiously in older patients because of the risk of confusion and falls.
